throwback thursday...

ok... ok... i know its another picture post and NOT a regular post BUT - it actually has to do with today.  on a side note, isn't she just SOOO cute?? she still does her lip like that... haha.

anyways... hubs is on his way as i type to take riley to a 2 week obedience training up in gunter.  i call it her "summer camp".  :)  before they left, i told her to behave (ha), be sweet, have fun and use that noggin' of hers and actually LEARN something!  i'll be interested to hear how hubs does saying goodbye.  he's been sad all week!

i'm really AM going to miss her (i don't yet since its just like me going off to work for a day) - but i WILL enjoy the following for the next 2 weeks:

  1. putting on lotion after my shower and not have a dog run across the apartment immediately to lick it off.  ugh.

  2. vacuuming and not having to revacuum 5 minutes later.

  3. even though its cute at times, not have a 55 lb dog crawl under the bed.  it usually involves chewing on something she's not supposed to.

  4. no scratches and bruises brought on by a hyper puppy

  5. maybe getting to sleep in?

  6. a happier kota dog (a.k.a. "the old lady") - maybe she will have a little bounce in her step!!
UPDATE:  ok.  i miss her already...  and it hasn't even been 4 hours.

Grade: F

i just glanced through some of my old blogs and ran across this one.

wow.  if someone were to grade me on this, it would definitely be a big fat "F"!  although there are a couple of ones that i'm proud to say have happened... and FAR outweigh the others!!

let's see how i've done:

Ten things I'd like to do (and more)

1. Go to Europe – namely Paris and Italy (ok… those aren’t the same things. One is a city, another, a country. But still. I want to go!!)  nope

2. Run another half marathon  nope - can't even run 2 miles these days but i'll keep working at it

3. Fall in love – haha. Yeah. Just had to put this one on here. :)  YEAH!  this one is my favorite one that happened!!

4. Get out of Texas this year!!!  do colorado and kauai count??

5. Cook more - become more comfortable with it  eh... not TOO great at it. or maybe i'm just lazy??

6. Become a photographer – guess that would mean I would need to get a good camera, take a class and start taking pictures?  nope

7. Experience more of Dallas – anyone want to join me?!  nope

8. Figure out how to work in my yard. LOL. I hate yardwork and have successfully killed my plants. My flowerbeds/plants look horrible!!  nope.  haha.  luckily i don't have to accomplish this one anytime soon.  no house = no yard

9. Learn how to do flower arrangements – weird one. I know.  nope

10. GET A NEW JOB!!!!! (and maybe a new career?!?!)  a BIG nope

**UPDATE** (I keep thinking of more things I want to add... and I know there are more but here are just some I think of...)
11. Take voice lessons  nope

12. Learn how to dance  nope - although the hubs keeps pushing for this

13. Get a dog - a chocolate lab  does a yellow one count??  :)

14. Start riding... a road bike that is  nope

today would have been my step-brother's 33rd birthday.  his life was cut way too short.  there's quite a bit of sadness that creeps up when i actually stop to think about it...

and then i think about how i didn't really KNOW him.  sure... he was my brother for so many years.  but due to situations, circumstances and even neglect on my part, i never really invested in truly knowing him.  i would always make the excuse that we were "very different", lived two very different lives.

honestly though, that does not matter.  relationships are created whenever my life crosses the path of someone else's - and not by accident.  i believe it is all divinely ordained.  and in this case - we were FAMILY.

BUT - i am learning ever so more that in order to keep and GROW relationships, i must be intentional.  i am so good at just retreating... when things are uncomfortable, when things are awkward, when i don't feel good about myself (which is usually the main reason)... i could go on and on.  that is my first reaction to things.  (this could also be why i am craving relationships/friendships right now. i've retreated.)

if i'm not intentional in the relationships of those i hold dear, they fall apart.  they disintegrate.

i pray that i always remember today.  that i never forget.

looking back

as this week closes in on our first year anniversary, there is so much to say.  i've been thinking about what i was doing a year ago.  how was my stress level?  what was left to do?  was i REALLY getting anything done at work?  :)

i have also been thinking about all of those that helped get us to that day... that celebrated with us.  we were truly blessed to be surrounded by friends and family that praised the Lord together with us.

i know its a year later... but i feel like thanking those people again.  (even though most do not read my blog!!  haha.)

- first, my sweet husband.  little did he know about the indecisive and easily-stressed woman he was about to marry... i know its hard for the man to feel involved in the planning when the woman has been "planning" her wedding since she was old enough to dream of being married.  i know you are still learning my quirks... but yet you love me anyways.

- the unsung hero:  my mother.  she had dreamt of this day for me... but at the same time was terrified of the "stressed brooke".  :)  the planning started off a little rocky but ended with ease - at least in my opinion.  what a wonderful, beautiful woman.  am so blessed to call her mom.

- my parents.  all of them.  i was blessed by them financing my wedding even though i was 31!  what a gift. YOU are a gift.

- my in-laws.  i was welcomed into the family with arms open wide.  and they are such givers.  i am truly blessed to have this new family.

- my sister.  i could never imagine going through the wedding process without her.  she always has a desire to take care of me... and for her to be by my side through it all - there are no words.  even though she was VERY pregnant with little finian, she wanted to do all she could... anything to lighten the load.  and her work on the wedding programs was even better than i could have imagined.  both her and j-man worked so hard at getting them done and printed in time.  love you!!

- my bridesmaids.  for everything.  you have each been such an important part of my life.  whether it was for my full 31 years... or for just a couple... you make my heart smile.  also, for my wonderful shower.  you can see my post about that here.  looking at those pictures makes me laugh... and smile... and cry... and wonder where my collarbones went.  LOL.  but seriously.  you all are a blessing.

- my old homegroup.  "doing life" with them was truly an answer to prayer and one of the biggest blessings i have ever had.  in fact, my mother prayed for that quite often for me... and got my tears flowing after thanking the Lord for my sweet friends right before walking down the aisle.  love you... and miss you.

- sharon.  she offered to help decorate in any way... and she decorated the reception so beautifully.  it was so wonderful to decide on a theme/design and let her do her magic... and not have to worry about it.

- the ladies at mbbc.  so much of my history has been in that church.  so many dear friends.  i was blessed by a bridal shower given by several women that have played a big part of my life.  and of my family's.  the love of Christ is definitely portrayed through those women.

- the scurry compound.  so neat that my in-laws have such great friends... that are also next-door neighbors.  they threw us a couples shower and we were truly "showered" with love.

has it really been a year??  wow.
